Eagles, Lady Thunder register first wins
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Brown’s Town Eagles and Lady Thunder won their first games last weekend after victories over Knibb Thunder and Golden Ravens, respectively, in the Western Basketball Association (WBA) Invitational Leagues at the Montego Bay Cricket Club on Saturday.
Junior Gooden had a double-double for Brown’s Town as they rebounded from a loss to score a 53-point (76-23) win over Knibb Thunder who were losing their fourth-straight game in the WBA Men’s invitational.
After losing to Lady Warriors in their opening game, Lady Thunder rallied in the fourth quarter to edge Golden Ravens by one point (26-25).
Gooden scored 10 points and had 16 rebounds for Brown’s Town who led 20-5 after the first quarter, 44-14 at half-time and 58-16 after three quarters.
Rodane Whorms led all scorers with 29 points and had six rebounds, Peter Chambers scored 19 points, while Johmar Ingram had 16 rebounds for Brown’s Town.
Anthony Smith scored seven points for Knibb Thunder, Jordan Allen, Jehreem Charlton and Wayne Spence all scored four points while Manuel Shields grabbed 13 rebounds.
