WhatsApp outage affects users across the world

Whatsapp was down for users Wednesday afternoon following what appeared to be a major outage that affected users across the world.

A significant number of users, including Jamaicans, took to Twitter to report an outage of the messaging platform that is owned by Meta, which also operates Facebook, Instagram and Threads.

“We’re working quickly to resolve connectivity issues with WhatsApp and we’ll update you here as soon as possible,” WhatsApp tweeted at 3:44pm (Jamaica time).

There were more than 40,000 reports of the disruption in WhatsApp service

As of 3:45pm, more than 40,000 reports of WhatsApp being down were made to Down Detector, which tracks website and apps outages.

At 4pm, users in Jamaica and other parts of the world began reporting a resumption in their services.

WhatsApp has yet to say what caused the disruption.
