Long jumper Hickling set for Austrian Open
National women’s long jump champion Tissanna Hickling will return to competition for the first time since she won at the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) National Championships earlier this month when she participated in the Raiffeisen Austrian Open Eisenstadt 2023, a World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze event on Wednesday.
Hickling, who jumped a personal best 6.85m to win her third national title at the National Championships to qualify for the World Athletics Championships, will be up against a strong field that will include Nigeria’s Ese Brume, Leticia Oro Melo of Brazil, and Filippa Kviten of Cyprus.
Six other Jamaicans are also down to take part in the event, including Kemba Nelson who was restricted to one race at the National Championships because of injury and will contest the women’s 100m along with Christania Williams, and they will go up against American Kennedy Blackmon.
Julian Forte is down to run both the men’s 100m and 200m, while Nigel Ellis and Sandrey Davison will run the shorter sprint.
Stacey Ann Williams is down to run the women’s 400m.
