#UpNext: Gapix aspires to break into other markets with summer single ’Hideaway’

Wanting to share his music with a wider audience is the focus for up-and-coming artiste Gapix, and his single, ‘Hideaway’ may do the trick.

The 22-year-old Spanish Town resident, given name Tareque Robinson said that the single is a song for the summer, and appeals to ladies and men alike based on the lyrics and the melodic composition of the R&B-infused dancehall sound that he has become known for.

The artiste, who began a professional music career in 2018 says with each release he sees where his fan base is growing, and hopes to one day receive exposure on an international level.

Here are eight questions with up-and coming- artiste Gapix:

1. Who is Gapix?

Gapix is a very creative individual. I would say he’s a very enigmatic person who always tries to do things outside of the box.

2. When did you get into music?

I got into music around 2018 in terms of releasing tracks professionally and releasing actual recordings. Prior to that I would write songs and sing here and there, but 2018 was when I started putting out material; sharing material with the world. I started with me putting out a few snippets on Instagram and by getting a bit of feedback from persons who were saying, ‘yeah man do you thing’ or ‘the song dem sound good’ that led me to share my music with a wider audience.

3. How are things going since 2018?

Things have been going well as I do have somewhat of a core fan base; persons who are always listening to my music. Of course I would want to be exposed to a larger audience— that’s the goal— but things really take time as I continue to work on certain aspects of the music to try and get it out there more, I hope to keep the fan base I have and break into another niche still.

4. How would you describe your style when it comes to your music?

I would describe my style as a fusion of R&B chord progression or a Neo Soul chord progression with Dancehall drum pattern or Afrobeat drum pattern. That is essentially the vibe I go for most times, however I have some other songs with different vibes in terms of more reality, more conscious, more introspective songs that carry a lot of weight in what it can mean to a lot of people who listen to these songs. I am looking forward to sharing some of that type of vibe to the public too as I am known more for Dancehall/R&B type of songs.

5. Tell us about Hideaway:

The most recent release is a song called ‘Hideaway’. It is a song that encompasses the whole summer feel, the whole summer vibe. You are out on the beach and enjoying yourself so that is the type of vibe. It was released about four weeks ago.

6. What has the reception to your music been like?

It is always good feedback. I have consistently seen where persons are still tuning in to Gapix, I have received specific comments from persons saying they rate my music, rate what I am doing and they encourage me to keep going. So, I am always going to keep making music and share music with those who can identify with whatever it is that I am singing and putting out there.

7. Where do you hope music will take you?

As I said I hope the journey takes me to a wider audience because my team and I believe that what we are creating can really break into other markets, and so far our exposure is actually growing. So right now me and the team are just seeing what we can do to get the music on that level. The ultimate goal is to reach an international stage.

8. What’s next from Gapix?

Just look out for more follow up releases. Hideaway was released four weeks ago and by August again, I will have another track released. If we build up enough momentum we are considering releasing a project and giving my listeners a body of work that they can really sit and listen to; something that has a consistent theme and something they can vibe to. But for now we are releasing singles.
