1Mr Smooth shares relationship blues on Cut Me Open
Singer 1Mr Smooth has been involved in several relationships which didn’t go the way he had hoped.
Those experiences are the basis for his latest single Cut Me Open, which was released in April.
The song, which also features dancehall artiste YelloStone, is accompanied by a video which was released on July 28.
1Mr Smooth explained how the collaboration with YelloStone came about.
“I was searching for beats online when I came across this sick beat. So, I took it down and started writing for it. After finishing my verse, I realised I needed a big voice and a different vibe on the second verse, so I reached out to YelloStone through a good friend. It was easy working with YelloStone as he has a good work ethic. He is always looking for new ways to improve his craft, so I realise we have a lot in common,” said 1Mr Smooth.
The artiste said he is pleased with the reception that the song has received since it was released and he is hoping to amp up rotation now that the official video has been released.
As a member of the group X-ale, 1Mr Smooth enjoyed the spotlight when they finished in second place of the popular Tastee Talent Competition.
“I’ve come a long way to get to where I am now. I was a member of the quartet X-ale, which later evolved into a trio. They had other personal responsibilities after singing all over the island, doing the hotel circuit and public events. Afterwards, I began exploring the path of my journey and went solo,” said 1Mr Smooth.
Hailing from St Mary, he is hoping to achieve success similar to that of Beres Hammond, Capleton, Ninja Man, Minister Marion Hall, among others, all of whom are originally from the parish.
In 2017 the singer formed his own label Obx1 Music and released his debut album The Galbum in 2021.
He has been working with producers including Big League Music and Vz Beats Productions.
Among his better-known songs are Praises, Russian Roulette, Dem Dead, Move Fawud, and Bloody Streets.
