Gregory Isaacs Foundation honours Patricia House
The Gregory Isaacs Foundation (GIF) maintained its commitment to help rehabilitate substance abusers by donating funds to Patricia House on August 8.
The handing over, made by June Isaacs of the GIF, took place at the facility’s new location in Linstead, St Catherine.
Isaacs, widow of singer Gregory Isaacs, who died in 2010, told the Jamaica Observer that the funds are part proceeds from the Red Rose For Gregory show held at Hope Gardens in June.
“The Foundation took a decision in 2010 to support Patricia House in whatever way we can… and Patricia House is one of Jamaica’s foremost facilities for drug rehabilitation,” she said.
June Isaacs launched the GIF shortly after her husband’s death.
It has donated annually to Patricia House, which was located in Kingston until May when its new complex opened in Linstead.
According to Isaacs, “It is far more improved than the original one.”
Gregory Isaacs was the epitome of lover’s rock, reggae’s easy-listening offshoot. Songs like All I Have is Love, Love is Overdue, Soon Forward, Night Nurse, and Private Secretary earned him the undisputed title of The Cool Ruler.
His career was marred by a long addiction to cocaine, which resulted in numerous run-ins with law enforcement.
Isaacs, who died in London at age 60, spoke openly about his struggles with drugs and discouraged use of them, especially among young people.
