#WorldChamps2023: Jackson, Fraser-Pryce hunt 100m glory in Budapest
Jamaican sprint queens Shericka Jackson and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce continued their quest for glory after safely securing their spots in Monday’s final of the women’s 100m at the 19th staging of the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
In a tough semi-final where the three fastest women this year vied for a spot in final, it was Jackson who came out the victor in 10.79 seconds. Marie-Josée Ta Lou of Ivory Coast also registered a time of 10.79 for second. America’s Sha’Carri Richardson 10.84 was good enough for a non-automatic qualification spot. Shashalee Forbes finished sixth in 11.12 seconds.
Fraser-Pryce is looking to defend and claim her sixth World Championship title in the event. She won semi-final one in 10.89 seconds, despite not getting her usual bullet start. Tamara Davis of America finished second in 10.98.
Natasha Morrison did not advance after finishing fourth in semi-final three. St Lucia’s Julien Alfred won in 10.92 while America’s Brittany Brown crossed the line in second in 10.97. Great Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith advanced with a non-automatic qualification after running 11.01.
Ewa Swaboda of Poland was given the nod after recording a time of 11.01.
All nine women will line up for the final at 2:50 pm Jamaica time.
