#WorldChamps2023: Pinnock, McLeod, Gayle through to long jump final
Jamaica’s Wayne Pinnock, Carey McLeod and Tajay Gayle have secured their spots in Thursday’s final of the men’s long jump at the Budapest World Athletics Championships.
Two-time national champion Pinnock soared to a lifetime best and world-leading jump of 8.54m to advance from Group A. He recorded the biggest wind-legal outdoor mark since May 2021 and joint 20th-best jump on the all-time list.
In Group B, McLeod produced a first-round attempt of 8.19m, easing over the qualifying mark of 8.15m.
After two seven metres jumps, 2019 Doha World Championships gold medal winner and national record holder, Tajay Gayle left it late to record a best mark of 8.12m in his third attempt to qualify.
The final of the men’s long jump will take place at 12:30 pm Jamaica time.
