The traditional portrayal of Jesus Christ is that of a sombre, holy man with little tolerance for flamboyance. Deejay Rich Kid begs to differ, saying there is proof that the Son of God had moments when he let his hair down.

On Dwellings of The Most High (aka Jesus Dance), Rich Kid and singer Nadine want to prove that dour image is fast becoming a thing of the past.

Released in late July, the song is bolstered by the Jesus Dance, a five-step routine created by a colleague of Rich Kid in Toronto.

“DJ Hearless and I linked up with Josh, who auditioned for a role in Mel Gibsons’ [movie] The Passion of The Christ. He showed us exclusive clips of his mind-blowing five-step dance routine that didn’t make it into the movie. Now, our mission is to make this dance come to life,” Rich Kid told the Jamaica Observer.

Those five steps are the Holy Feet, Angel Wave, Devil Dig, Lighting Clap and Righteous Step.

To help promote the song through his Cash Global Records Entertainment company, Rich Kid has released a video of the dance on social media.

Released in 2004, The Passion of The Christ was a box office smash. It looks at the final hours of Jesus Christ’s life from a modern perspective.

Born in Portmore, his biggest musical influence is Lieutenant Stitchie, whom he said was a mentor early in his career. For over 30 years Rich Kid has lived in Toronto which he describes as a “multicultural hub with a vibrant Diaspora gospel scene”.

Dwellings of The Most High (aka Jesus Dance) he wants to dispel popular belief that Jesus Christ was someone who shunned fun.

“The dance symbolises a trend and reveals hidden truths. According to non-Biblical manuscripts, Jesus once joined a procession where he ignited the herb, enjoyed the finest wine, and mesmerised the audience with his captivating dance moves,” said Rich Kid.
