Elaine Thompson-Herah, the double-Olympic champion, demonstrated her regained fitness by clocking a season’s best time of 11.00 seconds (-0.2m/s) to secure a third-place finish in the women’s 100m at Thursday’s Diamond League meet in Zurich, Switzerland.

This marked her first individual race since the Jamaican national championships held in early July. Thompson, who participated in the women’s 4x100m relays preliminaries at last week’s World Championships, shared the same time with fellow Jamaican Natasha Morrison, who clinched the second position behind newly-crowned world champion Sha’Carri Richardson of the USA.

Sha’Carri Richardson, who outpaced Shericka Jackson and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce to claim the World Championship title in Budapest, Hungary, last week, secured victory in Thursday’s race with a time of 10.88 seconds.

Shashalee Forbes, another Jamaican, finished fifth with a time of 11.12 seconds.

Meanwhile, Shanieka Ricketts, a finalist at the World Championships, secured the second position in the triple jump with a best effort of 14.78m (0.6m/s), while Kimberly Williams finished ninth with a jump of 13.75m (0.0m/s).

Roshawn Clarke was unable to complete the men’s 400m hurdles event.
