Pitchy Patchy returns with new faces – play set to take centre stage September 6
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Back by popular demand, the cast and crew of Pitchy Patchy, Jamaica’s newest, most raved-about production, gets ready to take centre stage for the second straight year.
Dubbed “an outrageously hilarious satirical theatre revue”, the play which features some of Jamaica’s most popular social media influencers, is getting ready for its grand return to the Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts on September 6. With 20 shows set to take place across the four weeks in September, the production is hoping to once again steal hearts and evoke laughter as they add new faces to an already star-studded cast.
With the likes of artiste-turned-YouTuber, Wayne Marshall, social media personality, Danar Royal and entertainer DBurnz being added to a cast which already included Keticia ‘TC’ Chatman, Tanaania Tracey and Dr Sanneta Myrie, the team behind the production say the show is a ‘must see.’
“I believe Pitchy Patchy is a production you just have to come out and see, a must-see event. It brings together different aspects of our culture, our history, our community and what it means to be Jamaican,” said Elizabeth Benjamin, the production, public relations personnel. “
Pointing out that Pitchy Patchy is an appropriate blend of “the new proscenium” (social media influencers) and traditional theatre talent, the show’s conceptualisers said the two-act revue “traverses social commentary, popular culture and Jamaican myths.”The production cultivates a wide range of things we experience, things we do, things we say and what makes us unique as a people. Pitchy Patchy is also a production where people can come and laugh, have fun, connect, relax and let out the steam of the day or week that you’ve had. Come and just bask in the best we have to offer, comedy at its finest.”
“People will enjoy the natural heights of theatre but also the natural personalities of each of the actors and actresses in the play and how they all mesh together so well. They bring across each storyline in a way that has never been seen before,” she continued.
High off a flood of rave reviews from its debut showing in 2022, Pitchy Patchy’s producers believe the 2023 showing will be even more spectacular.
“This year just like last year brought together different themes and settings that we experience in our culture. This year we have new jokes, new points of focus for everyone to enjoy, and new messages. The show is very dynamic with points where laughter is evoked and other parts where you will meditate on the messages being sent. We think it will be even better than last year’s show,” said Benjamin. “If you were there last year, then you know what kind of treat awaits you come September 6.”
Pitchy Patchy is the brainchild of creative director Rayon Mclean and executive producer, Kasandra Henry.
