Shaggy, Rayvon, DJ Cassidy top the New York Reggae chart

If You Like Pina Coladas, a song by DJ Cassidy, Shaggy and Rayvon, tops the New York Reggae chart. It is a remake of British American singer and songwriter Rupert Holmes’ 1979 platinum-certified #1 US single Escape (The Pina Colada Song).

Escape (The Pina Colada Song) was a #1 hit locally, topping the JBC Radio One and RJR Top 40 charts in early 1980.

The remake by DJ Cassidy, Shaggy and Rayvon was released almost three months ago and it’s official music video has racked up more than 2.1 million views on YouTube.

This is the third #1 collaboration featuring Shaggy and Rayvon. They first collaborated on 1993’s Big Up which failed to chart. Two years later, they teamed up on a remake of Mungo and Jerry’s British chart-topper In the Summertime. Their version went to #5 on the UK Singles chart.

Shaggy and Rayvon again collaborated on another remake, 2000’s Angel, which topped the UK and US charts.

Angel, originally titled Angel of the Morning, was written by Chip Taylor and originally recorded by Evie Sands. It was the version by singer Merrilee Rush that became popular in 1968, who took it to #7 on the Billboard Hot 100. Another popular arrangement was done by Juice Newton, whose version charted higher, at #4 in the summer of 1981 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Still on the New York Reggae chart, Damian Marley’s remake of George Harrison’s My Sweet Lord surges from #10 to #4, while Love Yu Self by Khristopher darts from #18 to #13.

This week’s new entries are Dem Belly Full by Bob Marley and the Wailers featuring Skip Marley and Rema (#28), He Gives by Sanchez and Busy Signal (#27), and Run in Circles by Imar Shepherd (#30).

Over to the South Florida Reggae chart, Freddie McGregor’s I’ll Be Waiting spends a third week on top.

This week’s new entries are Thank You by Nitty Kutchie and Buju Banton (#24) and I Shall be Released by Lee Milo (#25).

Bob Marley and the Wailers continue their reign in the #1 spot on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart with Legend clocking 190 weeks on top.

Best of Shaggy: The Boombastic Collection by Shaggy is steady at #2, while Sean Paul’s triple platinum-certified The Trinity, which topped charts in 2005, re-enters at #3.

Stick Figure’s Wisdom is firm at #4, while Greatest Hits by UB40 holds steady at #5. Stick Figure returns at #6 and #7 with World on Fire and Set in Stone.

Sean Paul’s Dutty Rock dips from #6 to #8, Endless Summer by The Elovaters is firm at #9, and Live at Red Rocks by Rebelution re-enters at #10.

Over to the US Afrobeats Songs chart, Burna Boy debuts 10 tracks from his latest album I Told Them… Meanwhile, Talibans II, his remixed collaboration with Byron Messia, slips, to #4.

The original Talibans by Byron Messia continues its streak on multiple Billboard charts.

On R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay, Talibans is firm at #26. It retains its #23 position on the Rhythmic Top 40 and #21 spot on Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay. It fares better on Rap Airplay, stepping up from #15 to #12.

Talibans II by Burna Boy and Byron Messia stretches from #25 to #16 on the Nigeria Hot 100 Singles chart.

Reggae artiste Anthony B’s collaboration Wind Me Up with American inspirational singer Dante Bowe receives a new lease on life, as it moves up to #14 on the Billboard Adult R&B Airplay chart, its highest ranking to date.

On the Latin Airplay chart, Nina Bonita by Feid and Sean Paul continues its downward trajectory as it slips from #9 to #18. Over on the Latin Rhythm Airplay chart, the song backtracks from #5 to #9.
