KINGSWOOD IN A ROMP
Eight-year-old grey horse Kingswood, who stepped down in class from a $400,000 claiming tag, made light work of competitors, winning by an easy 14 lengths travelling 6 furlongs (1,200m).
Kingwood‘s success came in a three-year-old and upwards Optional Claiming ($250,000-$200,000) spread that also included six-year-olds and upwards (non-winners of three) and native-bred five-year-olds and upwards (non-winners of two).
With Richard Henry in the saddle for trainer Errol Waugh, Kingswood battled King Antholew (Ameth Robles) and Silverstine (Ramon Nepare) for the early advantage. Silverstine took control going into the half-mile (800m) turn but that excitement only lasted for a brief moment as Kingswood surged to the front coming into the lane.
Kingswood accelerated in deep stretch and powered home to register his first win for the season and fifth overall from 32 career starts. Silverstine finished second ahead of Party Princess (Reyan Lewis) in third place. The final time for the race was 1:17.2 (24.0 x 48.1).
MONEY MARKET GOES ONE BETTER
Money Market, after finishing 1 ¾ lengths second to Captain Calico over the straight (1,000m) on September 2, returned and made no mistake riding the bend at 5 ½ furlongs (1,100m).
Trained by Ryan Darby and ridden by Paul Francis, Money Market disputed the early with Sensational Move (Richard Henry) as the two drew away from the field in a battle of their own. Money Market assumed the lead going into the half-mile turn and began to open up on Sensational Move approaching the distance.
Money Market turned for home with a healthy lead in what appeared to be an easy win in the three-year-old (non-winners of two) and imported three-year-olds and upwards (maidens).
Sensational Move made a late challenge but Money Market was able to hold on to a half-length win at the wire. Manoushe (Dane Dawkins) finished in third place as the final time was recorded at 1:08.0 (23.0 x 46.2).
CONSISTENT NORBLAR GETS HOME
The Gresford Smith-owned and conditioned Norblar continues to make noticeable progress.
The three-year-old bay colt registered his second career win in a native-bred three-year-old (non-winners of two) and imported three-year-old and upwards (maidens) going 7 furlongs (1,400m).
Under the capable hands of champion jockey Dane Dawkins, Norblar sat off the pace in the early exchanges as Running Glory (Shamaree Muir) led the field down the backstretch ahead of Kem (Bebeto Harvey).
Dawkins let loose a notch and the three-year-old bay colt responded quickly by going in chase of Running Glory navigating the half-mile turn. Approaching the distance, Norblar took control of the contest and began to draw away from rivals in the straight.
Although shortening inside the final stages, Norblar had done more than enough for a comfortable win.
Norblar was a length and a half in front of Wow How (Matthew Bennett) and Slam Dunk (Raddesh Roman) in a time of 1:27.4 (24.1 x 48.1 x 1:13.1).
UNRULY DUDE EASILY OBLIGES
Unruly Dude, trained by Oral Hayden and ridden by Dane Dawkins, easily obliged as the favourite in a native-bred four-year-old and upwards (non-winners of two) and imported four-year-olds and upwards (maidens) at 6 furlongs.
Unruly Dude wasted no time, shooting to the front of the pack as soon as the starting gates open.
Unruly Dude was taken back a bit by Dawkins, who allowed Adenosine (Samantha Fletcher) to take up the running going into the half-turn turn.
Dawkins then said go and Unruly Dude drew alongside Adenosine at the top of the straight before pulling away in deep stretch to win the race by 4 ¼ lengths in a time of 1:15.4 (23.3 x 48.2).
Print Quality (Reyan Lewis) finished second and Diamond Rock (Ramon Nepare) slotted in third place.
