Six more schools win second game in ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup

Six more schools win second game in ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Six more schools, including three former champions – Glenmuir High, Garvey Maceo High and Dinthill Technical – all improved their records to two wins from two starts after Saturday’s round of matches in the ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup football competition.

Glenmuir High came from a goal down to beat last year’s losing finalists Central High; Garvey Maceo High blanked Tacius Golding 8-0; while Dinthill Technical were 6-1 winners over Ewarton High.

Knox College, Morant Bay High and Happy Grove also scored back-to-back wins on Saturday.

Central High took the lead in the 11th minute through James Gallimore but Glenmuir High, the Ben Francis KO holders, responded with five straight with goals from from Nyron Allen, Kyle Gordon, Tajaun Cummings- who scored from the penalty spot- Deadre Johnson and Derrick Henry.

Cleo Clarke scored four times for Garvey Maceo High who are yet to concede a goal after both games, while Giovanni Afflick scored a hat-trick to lead Dinthill Technical as they sentenced Ewarton High to back-to-back losses. Tyrese Gowe also scored a double and Gaybriel Anderson scored the other for the winners.

Knox College took over the lead in Zone G with a 2-1 win over Mile Gully High; Morant Bay High edged Paul Bogle High 1-0 in Zone K, while Happy Grove beat Fair Prospect 4-2 in Zone N.

Meanwhile, a number of schools rebounded from opening game losses to score wins on Saturday.

Kevin Hawthorne, Kenroy Thorpe, Leonardo Crossbourne and Renaldo Gallimore were on the score sheet as Maldon High beat Green Pond High 4-0; Spot Valley High clipped St James High 2-1; Bellefield High edged Christiana High 1-0 and Port Antonio High beat Titchfield High 3-1.
