Dinthill, Charlemont in hot Zone J d’Cup clash

FORMER champions and Zone J leaders Dinthill Technical and Charlemont High will put their unbeaten records on the line today when they meet at Dinthill Technical in one of 15 games scheduled to be played in the ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup football competition.

Dinthill Technical have won both games played so far while Charlemont High won their only game — and both are expected to continue their rivalry.

Four more schools, including former winners Rusea’s High and Glenmuir High, as well as Knox College and Denbigh High, will be going after a third-straight win today.

Annotto Bay High became the first school to win their first three games when they held off St Mary High 3-2 in their Zone I game played on Monday.

The win saw Annotto Bay High move five points clear at the top of the points tables, ahead of Tacky High, Horace Clarke High and Wycliffe Martin High, all who have played a game less.

Today Charlemont High, who last beat Dinthill Technical in the first round in the 2014 season, will hope to draw level with Dinthill Technical who have scored nine goals in their two games played so far.

Rusea’s High will be away against Merlene Ottey High who are coming off a 4-0 win over Cambridge High last week, the first win in at least the last two stagings of the competition.

Last season Rusea’s High beat Merlene Ottey High 7-0 and 5-0 and will be seeking to extend their perfect win record over their Hanover-based opponents.

Glenmuir High have started well and should win a third-straight when they host Porus High who were beaten 18-0 in their first game last week.

Denbigh High, who had beaten Porus High, will be away to Central High, with either team hoping for the win after splitting their two games last season.

Knox College, who have started well after missing the last two stagings, face Christiana High who have won one and lost another in their two games played so far.

Grange Hill, who recovered from an opening loss to beat Knockalva Technical 3-0, will be seeking back-to-back wins when they take on Black River High who had held Manning’s School to a 1-1 draw in their opening game.

Zone A leaders Irwin High and Cornwall College will seek to rebound from 0-0 stalemates on Saturday when they play away to St James High and Green Pond High, respectively.

Both St James High and Green Pond were beaten on Saturday by Spot Valley High and Maldon, respectively, who will also meet at Spot Valley today.

Result from Monday:
