‘Action Pack’ replies

‘Action Pack’ replies

REYAN Lewis has seemingly recovered his form and has issued a statement of purpose following the winning spree by reigning champion Dane Dawkins over the previous weekend of racing, which saw him trim the advantage to 12 winners for the jockeys’ title.

This declaration of purpose was made clear on the Saturday, September 16, 2023 10-race Caymanas Park programme when Lewis, popularly nicknamed by his throng of fans as Action Pack, sprinted home five victories to solidify his position as the clear favorite to win the championship.

Lewis had 77 winners at the beginning of the weekend’s racing on September 9 and 10, 18 winners more than Dawkins who had 59. Lewis was unable to ride a winner on Saturday so Dawkins won two races to cut the lead to 16 victories. On Sunday Dawkins was in excellent form, winning four more races, while Lewis was once again winless.

With the jockeys’ championship appearing to be far from decided, Dawkins’ six-win weekend essentially reduced Lewis’sadvantage to 12, suggesting a significant shift in momentum.

The five winners Lewis had last Saturday have now uncorked a different can of fish. He now has 82 victories, which is 16 more than Dawkins who rode just one victory. Lewis combined with champion Jason DaCosta to win four of his victories, and the duo continues to be unbeatable.

Lewis and DaCosta teamed up with Phenomenal One in the first race, Wayne’s Princess in the seventh race, Is That A Fact in the ninth race, and Luksol in the 10th and final event. The Wayne’s Princess win came in Division One of the $1.1-million Flossie McNeil Memorial Cup while Is That A Fact won the $1.4-million Poorlittlerichgirl Trophy feature.

Lewis’s other winner was Geolithic in the second race for trainer Peter-John Parsard.

“I am feeling very good about riding five winners in one race meet; I mean, it took a lot of hard work and dedication to achieve this,” Lewis told the Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide.

Jockey Reyan Lewis indicates that he have won five races.

“Winning five races is not as easy as it looks but I am thankful for my first five-timer. Once the horses come to run and they have a good jockey on them, the results will always be positive but sometimes things might not go as planned. But once the horses come to run, you will end up with a good amount of victories,” Lewis added.

As to his chances of winning the jockeys’ championship, Lewis said: “Well, I will just continue doing the necessary hard work and being dedicated to the sport. Well, winning the championship, it would mean a lot because as jockeys you will eventually win races but to win a title would be a next step in your career. I am just working hard and keeping the focus.”
