Mouttet Mile a possibility for Is That A Fact — trainer Jason DaCosta

Mouttet Mile a possibility for Is That A Fact — trainer Jason DaCosta

TRAINER Jason DaCosta says the ultra-rich Mouttet Mile (invitational) race should be a possibility for Is That A Fact if the horse stays fit and advances farther.

This response came after Is That A Fact won the $1.4-million Poorlittlerichgirl Trophy feature at Caymanas Park on Saturday, September 16, 2023.

The three-year-old American-bred bay colt Is That A Fact, ridden by Reyan Lewis, won the Open Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward over seven furlongs (1,400m) by a short head. The winning time was a decent 1:25.2 (24.2 x 47.0 x 1:11.1).

The Mouttet Mile is set for December 2 and will run over one mile for a purse of US$125,000.

“The Mouttet Mile is definitely worth considering. Once he [Is That A Fact] continues to improve then that’s definitely on the horizon. Going further in journey, it is left to be seen but he is doing it well so far; he is doing what he needs to do,” DaCosta told the Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide.

Ridden by Reyan Lewis, Is That A Fact never looked back after the quick-footed foreigner was expertly coupled up on the inside rails to take up the running approaching the six-furlong (1,200m) marker. Going into the half-mile (800m) Is That A Fact was in easy lead, followed by Jordon Reign’s (Tevin Foster), Blue Vinyl (Javaniel Patterson), and Perfect Brew (Dane Dawkins). But a titanic struggle appeared to be coming as Blue Vinyl and Perfect Brew arrived with their challenges in deep stretch.

It was then left to Blue Vinyl to try and pass the leader as Perfect Brew‘s gallop slowed down at the furlong pole (200m) but in the end Is That A Fact hung on to win his fourth-consecutive victory from seven starts. Perfect Brew finished third.

“Is That A Fact has been improving with every run. He worked excellently coming into this race and so we had expected a big run from him. I was a bit worried at the half-mile as there were two good horses behind him coming but he showed grit and determination to hold them off,” said DaCosta.
