Morant Bay High advances to daCosta Cup second round
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Morant Bay High are the first qualifiers for the second round of the ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup football competition after Paul Bogle High beat Yallahs High 3-0 in their Zone K return round game on Thursday.
Demani Gordon scored a hat-trick for Paul Bogle High, the perennial zone giants and ensured that Morant Bay High would not finish lower than second place.
Morant Bay High are the leader with a perfect 12 points from four wins, three points more than Paul Bogle High with Yallahs High in third on three points and Robert Lightbourne High yet to earn a point.
The two qualifiers could be decided next Friday when Morant Bay High hosts Yallahs and Paul Bogle plays away to Robert Lightbourne High.
This is the first time since 2017 that Morant Bay High were advancing from the first round when they were one of the best third-placed teams but lost to the defending champion Cornwall College in the second round.
Morant Bay High won their zone in 2014 and then finished at the foot of the tables in the Inter-zone round.
