MY Other Toy crew members were winners of the 62nd annual fishing tournament hosted by Montego Bay Yacht Club, which ended on Friday after three eventful days of fishing by the crew of 17 boats that entered the event.

Organisers said that at the end of three days, “In addition to the 18 Marlin releases, participants also reeled in one sailfish, one white marlin, and brought to the scales a variety of other prized catches including wahoo, dolphin (mahi mahi), and tuna.”

The event was preceded by the annual canoe fishing tournament on Monday that saw Mark Brown, aboard canoe Father’s Dream, winning the $100,000 first prize after landing a 217-lb marlin. A total of 27 canoes, with both male and female participants, took part in the event that is the traditional start of the annual marlin fishing tournament. The event also saw Amoy Millings on the Baby Maker boat win the second prize of $50,000 when she landed a marlin weighing 109lbs.

In the main event Still keeping it Jiggy were second overall, followed by Pier Pressure in third place.

Dave Taveli from My Other Toy won the prize for the biggest wahoo; Mark Berry on Safe Passage won the prize for the biggest marlin; and Joey Epstein on Stew Conch won the prize for the biggest tuna.

On Wednesday’s opening day, four marlins were released, two from Pier Pressure, with another five being released on Thursday. And on Friday’s final day, all of seven marlins were caught and released while angler Dave Taveli, a member of team My Other Toy, “displayed unwavering determination as he fought a marlin for over four hours late in the day”, the release said. “Despite the mechanical setback the team managed to release the winning marlin, demonstrating incredible resilience. They sputtered home on one engine but their heroic efforts paid off as they claimed the title of this year’s champions,” it continued.
