Gray’s Inn and Petersfield qualify for JFF Championships

Gray’s Inn of St Mary and Petersfield FC of Westmoreland have qualified for the Jamaica Football Federation’s (JFF) Championships after beating St Bess United and Seaforth SC, respectively, in Sunday’s semi-finals, on penalties.

The games were held at the University of West Indies (UWI) JFF Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence.

Both games ended in draws after regulation time and extra time and penalties were used to decide the results. Gray’s Inn beat St Bess United 5-4 after they were tied 1-1 while Petersfield beat Seaforth SC 3-1 after they were tied at 0-0.

The third qualifier will be known next weekend after the playing of the third place play-off that will precede the final, both at the same UWI-JFF venue.

Rasheed Dennis gave Gray’s Inn the lead in the 10th minute and the St Mary club appeared headed for victory in regulation time before second-half substitute Nacquain Brown scored in the 89th minute to draw St Bess United level.

They remained tied through the remainder of regulation and extra time, forcing the penalty shoot-out.
