Port Antonio return to d’ Cup second round after three years
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Port Antonio High snapped a three-season absence from the second round of the ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup football competition after they beat Titchfield High 2-0 on Friday in their Zone N return round game and qualified for the next round.
Their win saw them improve to 10 points and into second place as they booked a second round spot for the first time since the 2019 season as Happy Grove extended their perfect record to six games after edging Fair Prospect 3-2 won the zone.
Kerone George scored in the 25th minute and Shavarie Walker added a second in the 85th minute for Port Antonio High who finished the game with 10 players after Danjae Wright was red-carded in the 88th minute.
Happy Grove High won their zone for the third straight year when they outscored Fair Prospect High with Sean Williams scoring a brace in the seventh and 90th minutes, while Shevon Miller scoring in the 37th minute.
Micheal Powell in the 48th minute and Ryeem Davidson in the 65th minute scored for Fair Prospect.
Also on Friday, former champions Rusea’s High and Dinthill Technical won their zones. Rusea’s High drew 0-0 with second placed and fellow second round qualifiers Frome Technical to end the first round with 20 points, one more than Frome.
Green Island finished in third place in Zone B after blanking Merlene Ottey High 4-0.
Tyrese Gowe scored all four goals as Dinthill Technical beat Enid Bennett 4-1in Zone J and took their perfect win record to seven games and improved to an unassailable 21 points.
Newell High outscored Maggotty High 6-5 in a Zone E game, while Sydney Pagon High beat Roger Clarke High 7-1,
