Collection agent accused of storing clients’ credit card info

KINGSTON, Jamaica – A collection agent is facing prison time after he allegedly stored customers’ credit card information on his cellphone with the intention of making purchases unlawfully.

Christopher Bryan was brought before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Tuesday to answer to the charge of possession of identity information.

If convicted, Bryan faces up to five years in prison, under the Fraudulent Transactions (Special Provisions) Act, 2013.

Senior Parish Judge Lori-Ann Cole-Montague was told that Bryan worked at a prominent financial institution. On October 4, his supervisor allegedly discovered that he was storing the customer’s credit card information on his phone. When asked about the reason he had this information, Bryan allegedly told the supervisor that he was “going to use them to make future purchases.”

With the file completed, the matter was transferred to the Home Circuit Court where jurisdiction lies.

He is to appear in that court on November 6. Bryan was remanded until that date.
