Bartlett to sign copies of his book at UTech on October 31

Bartlett to sign copies of his book at UTech on October 31

KINGSTON, Jamaica- As climate change and pandemics, among other threats, challenge the outlook of global hospitality, Jamaica’s Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett has written a highly acclaimed book on how to preserve this economic mainstay for the future.

Titled, ‘Thought Leadership on Tourism, Resilience, and Sustainability in the 21st Century’, the book explores Bartlett’s observations and informed insights about the changing dynamics of tourism, resilience, and sustainability during a period of heightened risk.

On Tuesday, October 31, he will sign copies and read excerpts from his study which delves deeply into the world’s tourist ecology, giving fresh and timely viewpoints on how the industry needs to adapt.

The signing will be held at the Shared Facilities at LT50 on the University of Technology’s, (UTech) Hope Road campus, beginning at 7:00 pm.

Jamaica’s tourism, under Bartlett’s direction, was one of the first to emerge from the global COVID-19 pandemic due to its “well-engineered response” including features like the resilient corridors which proved to be the envy of world tourism players, Bartlett said in a release on Thursday.

“It is a collection of my essays, each of which is an in-depth investigation of some facet of tourism, from the importance of digital landscapes to the future of ocean economies. It is a timely publication as we seek to future-proof the industry,” Bartlett stated.

The Technology Innovation Centre (TIC), in partnership with Mack & Mack Innovation, a multi-media solutions company, will host the book signing with Minister Bartlett.

Manager of the TIC, Andrea Bolton-Fyffe, noted that Minister Bartlett “has demonstrated exceptional leadership and excellence in the field of tourism which is in keeping with the core values of UTech as exemplified by its motto “Magna per artem gesta” which translates to “excellence through knowledge”.

The TIC and UTech said they were therefore most pleased to join with him to facilitate the book signing.

Mack & Mack principals, Delano McFarlane and Dimario McDowell also expressed their pleasure in collaborating with the venture, with McFarlane noting that Bartlett’s “visionary and inspired leadership of the tourism sector reverberated beyond Jamaica’s shores to have global industry benefits”.
