Raddesh Roman making his mark
Leading rider Reyan Lewis and champion jockey Dane Dawkins have not been frequent visitors to the winners’ enclosure in recent weeks.
In their absence, however, other riders have stepped up and produced victors race after race. Raddesh “Sneaky Fox” Roman is one such reinsman who has been steadily improving in the saddle. Roman, on Saturday, October 21, 2023, booted home two winners on the nine-race programme — KP Choice and From Sheer To Ben.
KP Choice won race two, a four-year-old and upward contest over five-and-a-half furlongs (1,100m), while From Sheer To Ben was victorious in the ninth and final event, a three-year-old and upward over five furlongs (1,000m) straight.
Trained by Ricardo Brown, KP Choice sat in second position for the first part of the race before picking up the running in deep stretch on the inside rails to win by 7 ¾ lengths. The winning time was 1:08.1 (23.1 x 46.4).
From Sheer To Ben, owned and trained by Alford Brown, kept pace with the leaders before pulling away in the final stages of the race to win 3 ¾ lengths at the wire. From Sheer To Ben came home in a time of 59.0 (23.0 x 46.0).
With those winners, Roman took his tally for the season to 34 winners from 192 mounts. He sits in fifth position in the jockeys’ standing behind Lewis (85 winners); Dawkins (74 winners); Tevin Foster (70 winners); and Anthony Thomas (40 winners).
