‘We have to get better!’
Waterhouse Head Coach Marcel Gayle wants to see improvements from his team when they play Montego Bay United on Monday at 7:30 pm at Stadium East in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL).
The Drewsland-based club, who missed the JPL play-offs last season, were humbled 3-0 by Tivoli Gardens in the opening fixture of the 2023/24 season.
Gayle is hoping for a better showing this time around.
“We have to get better. We have to stop goals from scoring against us, because before we even score a goal, we have to stop. It’s the first in a long time we have given up three goals, so this is relatively new for us. We have some young players and I think they’ll learn from it.”
Montego Bay United, under new owner Yoni Epstein, will also be looking for a win after getting their first point of the season after a goalless draw with newcomers Lime Hall in their opening match.
Kick-off is at 7:30 pm.
In the first game of the double-header at 5:00 pm, Molynes United and Arnett Gardens FC will do battle as they seek their first victory.
Last Monday both teams struggled to find the back of the net as Molynes ended 0-0 with Vere United, and it was a similar result for Arnett against Dunbeholden.
However, Molynes Head Coach Alex Thomas was boosted by the showing and is expecting the goals to come.
“Our organisation defensively is good, because last season we gave up numerous goals, so to see the team set up defensively organised is a plus, so now we have to finish on the back end which is attacking.”
Only these fixtures for Matchweek Two were possible as Sunday’s games — Portmore vs Lime Hall, Dunbeholden vs Humble Lion, and Treasure Beach vs Mount Pleasant — were postponed due to the Reggae Girlz Concacaf W Gold Cup qualifier against Guatemala at the National Stadium.
