Manning Cup quarter-final groups decided

KINGSTON, Jamaica— There will be some mouth-watering clashes in the ISSA Digicel Manning Cup quarter-final groups which were decided on Wednesday with defending champions Jamaica College, St George’s College, Hydel High joined by Walker Cup champions Tivoli Gardens High in Group 1.

Group 2 will consist of the red-hot St Andrew Technical High School (STATHS), the dangerous Mona High, the improving Kingston College and St Catherine High, which created the major upset by sending Wolmer’s Boys’ packing.

The eight teams that lost in the second round -Haile Sellasie, Eltham High, St Jago, Kingston Technical, Campion College, Jonathan Grant High, Excelsior High and Wolmer’s Boys’- will play in the first round of the Walker Cup.

STATHS were the biggest winners on the day with an 11-0 aggregate win over Kingston Technical High School. Dwayne Atkinson III — the little brother of former KC striker Dwayne Atkinson II – scored a hat-trick and was ably supported by Rashuan Frankson who scored twice.

The Craig Butler-coached Mona High emerged 10-1 winners after they dispatched Jonathan Grant 6-1 on the back of earning three penalties in which their goalkeeper Akeem Bernard converted one and Dante Peralto missed the third spot-kick. Denzil McKenzie scored twice.

Champions JC eased past Eltham High in their usual professional manner 3-1 for a 6-1 aggregate win.

Inform Brian Burkett netted a hat-trick as St George’s College beat St Jago 3-0 for a 5-0 aggregate win. The dangerous striker has now scored 19 goals.

In the double-header at Stadium East, Kingston College (KC) beat Campion College 4-1 for a 7-3 aggregate win. Alex Hislop and the sturdy Demario Dailey scored two apiece.

In the second game, Tivoli Gardens defeated Haile Selassie 2-1 after the first leg finished 0-0, while Hydel High defeated Excelsior High 3-1 on aggregate.
