High-powered firearms seized during operation in St James, one man in custody
ST JAMES, Jamaica— A joint operation between the St James police and the Jamaica Defence Force led to the seizure of two high-powered firearms during a targeted operation on Salt Spring Road in the parish on Saturday.
Reports are that about 4:00 pm, the joint forces, who were acting on information, conducted a targeted raid in Scott’s Yard, Salt Spring, St James.
It is reported that while the security forces were conducting checks, they were fired on by gunmen and the lawmen returned gunfire.
Once the shooting subsided and checks were made after the area was secured, one AK47 assault rifle, a Glock 19 pistol, and several assorted rounds of ammunition were seized.
One man was taken into custody in connection with the seizure.
The police said that a manhunt has been launched to apprehend the other gunmen who were involved in the shooting.
They are also urging the public to come forward with any information that may assist in this investigation.
