17-y-o student among two charged for illegal firearm
A 17-year-old student was one of two persons charged following the seizure of an illegal firearm on Dalling Street in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland on Wednesday afternoon.
The student was arrested along with 29-year-old Nigel Coltas, a baker from the community.
They have been charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorised possession of ammunition. No court date has been given for the two accused.
Observer Online understands that around 5:45 pm, a joint police/military operation was conducted in the community in search of a wanted man.
During a search of a premises, a Taurus .357 Magnum revolver containing two .38 cartridges was found wrapped in a multi-coloured shirt between the wall of an abandoned house and a zinc fence.
The student and Coltas, who were at the premises, were placed in custody. Following further investigations, they were charged.
