Minister proposes ‘One Jamaica’ app to access multiple Gov’t services

WHILE a number of Government entities continue to participate in the ongoing digital transformation, a ‘One Jamaica’ app is being proposed to collate some of these virtual, user-friendly offerings into one space.

The suggestion was made Wednesday by minister without portfolio in the Office of the Prime Minister, with responsibility for skills and digital transformation, Senator Dr Dana Morris Dixon, at a Government of Jamaica technology showcase.

She hailed the multiplicity of apps from Government agencies that are streamlining many of their services online for the convenience of clients.

“Everybody is doing a lot of fantastic things, but one of the things with this showcase is it says we need to be a little bit more joined up than we are. We have a lot of stand-alone apps; does that make sense? Does it make sense to [combine] some of the apps into a Jamaica app – a ‘One Jamaica’ app – where you can do many services with the Government? That’s the vision and that’s what we will be working towards through our ICT Authority, which is eGov transformed,” Senator Morris Dixon said.

She maintained that the Government continues to work assiduously to bring the benefits of the digital agenda to all Jamaicans.

“There is a lot more work for us to do. But what this event says is that a lot of that work has already started and we have a team in Government across multiple entities [whose members] are brilliant and… are able to take us forward to the future that we desire,” the minister stated.

Meanwhile, Senator Morris Dixon applauded the fact that, starting in early 2024, Jamaica Post will begin the delivery of motor-vehicle registration documents across the country

Additionally, she hailed the Registrar General’s Department (RGD) for the planned roll-out of birth certificates in Braille, which should commence with a pilot phase in December.

The minister urged other Government entities to ensure inclusion in their digital transformation so that no Jamaican is left behind.

The second annual staging of the GOJ Technology Showcase was held at AC Hotel Kingston.

It featured a roster of Government agencies showcasing the ways in which they have utilised technology in their products and service.
