450 counts up the success

Dancehall artiste 450 is actualising his dream of becoming a global star after just concluding his first tour of England and charting at #1 in 14 Caribbean islands on Apple Music with his newest single Wild n Rich.

“All of the shows were just the same… Mi fans dem turn out in dem numbers fi see mi perform and hold a vibe wid mi, an’ mi can get fi interact with each person through the ‘meet and greet’. It give me a better outlook and perspective pon my fan base inna England,” he told the Jamaica Observer.

Real name Tristen Escoffery, 450 was born in Kingston but moved to Clarendon during his adolescent years. He attended Lennon High School in that parish.

The artiste made his recording debut in 2019 with Bines A Fly for Yong X Ray Entertainment. Follow-up songs include Size Ten (produced by Talk of The Town Music), Group Up and Be Smooth (Tru Ambassador), Highway, Pay fi My Love (True Factory Records), Lonely and Wellness Bench.

The youngster said he began writing music in high school, and was fortunately discovered by one of the popular dancehall producers to help fulfil his dream.

“Mi get the big break from Jahvy Ambassador, which is my current manager. He reached out to me at an early stage of my career. He heard a song that I released and said there was potential and he wanted to work with me. Eventually, mi end up sign and put in the work and him fulfil his due diligence and mek sure mi deh weh mi deh right now,” the artiste shared.

His most current release, Wild n Rich, has received close to four million streams on YouTube in just three weeks. According to 450, he is pleased by the level of support.

“Mi nuh wah seh it was shocking, but mi nuh wah seem like mi expect it. You know we always hope fi success fi each song weh drop, but this definitely get an extra push weh mi never really expect,” the singjay said.

In essence, the song is expressing strong, unfavourable emotions towards a former love interest after a failed relationship. The entertainer noted that the lyrics just flowed once he heard the beat.

“Wild n Rich came about with me just hearing the rhythm and expressing my emotions that I felt on the rhythm, so it wasn’t really based off of real experiences. It’s just that we, as men, can all relate to dem ting deh weh mi a sing bout,”450 said.

In reminiscing on 2023, the artiste said he has no regrets.

“I would say it was a good one. We accomplished a lot this year. I would say doing my England tour was the biggest accomplishment,” he said.
