The current buzz surrounding the song G.O.A.T. Get Weh, the latest single by dancehall artiste Own Way Iyara, has given the deejay the recognition that he always craved.

Produced by US-based Bellevue Entertainment, the song was released in September and has since taken on a life of its own thanks to the support of several dancehall street selectors.

“The message that I want people to take away from this song is to be the greatest of whatever talent or skill that you have. Accept your greatness. The G.O.A.T. means the Greatest of All Time, and I did this song to represent some great people out there. I wanted to pay homage to the real G.O.A.T. dem weh set some indelible mark in society,” Own Way Iyara disclosed in an interview with the Jamaica Observer on Thursday.

The humorous song is a celebration of ambition and perseverance.

“I came up with the idea of the ‘goat’, because mi no get what is rightfully mine, but mi still remain present in the game. Mi see artiste rise and make a mark and rub out, but Iyara mark indelible, dem caan move me,” he added.

The deejay says he is not surprised at the response to the song.

“A part of me feels surprised by the feedback. What surprised me is the speed as to how the song picked up and how people gravitated towards it. I put in the work recording the song, the production is good. The Jamaican audience, which is the roots, is a tough audience to crack,” said Own Way Iyara.

There are plans to shoot a video for the single.

The entertainer came into the spotlight in 2011 as part of the Alliance Next Generation camp, before moving to Bellevue Entertainment.

He is known for songs Nah Dweet, Pressure Cooker, Never Kill A Friend, and Yaadman Up Inna Farrin.
