In a highly anticipated showdown, defending champions Clarendon College and Glenmuir are set to clash in the massive daCosta Cup final this evening at 6:00 at the National Stadium.

The stakes are high as Glenmuir, seeking their fourth hold on the title, go into the final with momentum, having defeated Clarendon College 3-2 in the Champions Cup final last weekend.

The thrilling victory in the Champions Cup has given Glenmuir an injection of confidence as they face Clarendon College once again. The intense competition between these two powerhouse teams promises a spectacular display of skill and determination on the grand stage.

Clarendon College, who are aiming for their 11th hold on the title, are no strangers to the pressure of high-stake matches, and they are determined to redeem themselves after the narrow defeat in the Champions Cup final.

Head Coach Lenworth Hyde expressed the team’s readiness to defend the title. The season series stands at one-all, with Clarendon College having secured a 2-1 victory over Glenmuir weeks ago.

“We are very upbeat and ready to go, everybody is very focused and ready to defend our title,” said Hyde. “We have put that loss against them behind us because one must remember that we also beat them 2-1 this season… so the crucial one is on Saturday, and we have to be ready for it.

“Everybody knows what went wrong for us because we were dealt a hard blow by the red card,” Hyde added.

He noted that for most of his players, this is their final year of high school.

“I want my players to go out there and enjoy the moment because we don’t want to pressure them as most of them, it is their last year in the competition, so they are hell-bent on defending their title and leaving with some silverware this year,” Hyde said.

Clarendon College will rest their hopes in the hands of Keheim Dixon, who has netted 27 goals in the competition this season. He is expected to receive support from Justin Hayles, Malachi Douglas, and Tedane Williams.

Glenmuir, guided by Head Coach Andrew Peart, are on a mission. He emphasised the importance of executing the game plan, and leaving no room for complacency as they face the title holders.

“We are focused on the final itself because for us, it is a grand opportunity for the school celebrating its 65th year,” said Peart.

“Yes, we were successful in the Champions Cup, but the players have been very mature in terms of the outlook, and focusing on this game because the training has been good, and we are just focusing on our preparations and executing on Saturday.

“We are taking nothing for granted because we are starting a new game because the game starts at nil-all and so there is no advantage to any of the teams,” he said. “For us, it is about execution, and you have to turn up on the day and play the game as it is because you can’t think about what had happened previously, and you have to focus on the moment and play the moment as it comes,” he said.

Peart, who is seeking his first daCosta Cup title with the Clarendon-based institution, pointed out that his players are very determined to take home this year’s title.

“For me personally, it is just about getting the boys ready to play. I don’t think about what it means for myself at all. It is all about the boys because some of them will be leaving school next year, and this is a grand opportunity to leave as the daCosta Cup champions,” Peart said.

The top players from Glenmuir are Kyle Gordon, Orane Watson, Ja-Son Whyte, Brandon Wallace, and Nyron Allen.
