Chris Mamdeen bubbling since their return from overseas duties
Former champion jockey Christopher Mamdeen stated that riding on the international racing circuit has greatly improved his riding talent, allowing him to grow and develop in his chosen profession.
Mamdeen went to the North American circuit for the first time early this year and has had success riding at the Hastings racetrack in Vancouver, Canada. From 51 mounts, the young rider has ridden 10 wins, four seconds, and 10 thirds, earning CAN$90,423.
Mamdeen is excited about the experience he has gained and the chance to exhibit his talent overseas.
“I had a great time riding at Hastings. I mean, the experience was fantastic, and I learned a great deal.
“I think the experience I gained there has made me a better rider,” Mamdeen told the Jamaica Observer‘s The Supreme Racing Guide.
“I was able to ride alongside some of the world’s best jockeys, and I picked up a lot from them as well. I was able to strengthen my character and improve my riding technique. My experience was fantastic, and I believe I am riding much better than before,” he added.
After going winless on Mouttet Mile Race Day on Saturday, December 2, 2023, on his return to the saddle at Caymanas Park, Mamdeen announced his presence with two winners on the nine-race card on Saturday, December 9, 2023.
He won aboard Just An Illusion for trainer Errol Waugh in the opening event and Exotic Light for trainer Gary Griffiths in the seventh event.
Just An Illusion made one move to win a three-year-old and up Optional Claiming ($250,000-$200,000) event going six furlongs (1,200m) by 9 ¼ lengths. Just An Illusion won ahead of Prince Dominick (Omar Walker) and XY Soul (Tevin Foster) in a time of 1:16.1 (23.3 x 48.0).
Going 5 ½ furlongs (1,100m) in Division Two of the Miracle Cure Sprint, Exotic Light came from behind runners to win the non-winners of two contest for native-bred three-year-old fillies by 2 ¼ lengths. Exotic Light finished ahead of City Hawk (Oneil Mullings) and She’s A Mirage (Ramon Nepare) in a time of 1:08.2 (24.0 x 47.2).
“I am feeling so good to be back. I am safe, sound, and injury-free. I must thank all connections and I will continue to put in the work and hope for the best,” Mamdeen said.
