Marvia Providence, Jai Kingston for Genesis ’24
The Caribbean’s premier gospel fest Genesis is on!
Jamaica Youth for Christ (JYFC), on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, launched the 38th staging of the event at Jamaica Stock Exchange.
In a theatre-like setting, the launch was attended by members of the media, gospel artistes, members of the gospel community, and others.
JYCF Chairman Lieutenant Commander John McFarlane, for his part, said: “Genesis has been of tremendous benefit to many, many people,” and thanked Rev Dexter Johnson, current national director, and his team for the outstanding work to stage Genesis yearly.
The organisation has made four movies through its drama group, all award-winning, and continues to conduct leadership training and workshops.
The 2024 show will see the return of international Jamaican-born gospel singer Marvia Providence after more than a decade away from Genesis Kingston.
Rondell Positive also returns to Genesis after about 5 years.
For the first time in Kingston, gospel singer Jai Kingston will be live, as will the talented Rhoda Isabella.
Another of the headliners is Rian Davis, who announced at the launch that he and his wife are expecting their first child and are thinking of naming the child Genesis as the show has been a big deal for him.
The show will also feature Jamaica’s Male Artiste of the Year Johnmark Wiggan, who recently dropped his début album Validation.
Goddy Goddy also returns to the Genesis stage alongside Lucas Musiq, Orville Sutherland, Prince Saj, Audia Spencer Brown, Minister D Brown, and Perry In Christ.
Genesis 2024 will be opened by a few young acts: WD Sappleton, Trewth, Godson, Jim Radical, T Williams, and Tavion.
Also, for the first time, a five-way DJ competition will take place involving Gospel Ja, Love 101 fm, TBC radio, NCU, and Omega Radio.
The organisers promise an extravaganza of entertainment and worship at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre.
