Coach Wall confirms U20 camp in T&T ahead of Concacaf qualifiers

The Jamaica Under-20 men’s Head Coach John Wall has confirmed that the junior Reggae Boyz will engage in three friendly matches in Trinidad and Tobago as part of their preparation for the Concacaf Qualifiers in St Kitts next month.

The preparation camp in the Trinidad and Tobago is scheduled to take place from February 14-21.

The Jamaicans are drawn in Group F of the qualifiers alongside Bermuda, Grenada, and St Kitts and Nevis. The qualifiers are set to be held from February 23 to March 2, with matches slated for the SKNFA Technical Center in Basseterre.

“We will play three practice matches against Trinidad and Tobago. We will face the Trinidad and Tobago Under-20 team twice, and we will also compete against a Trinidad and Tobago senior club team,” Wall said on Thursday.

Wall expressed enthusiasm about the ongoing camp at The UWI/Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence in St Andrew.

“I am very excited about this camp, which has now started. I am very excited about the talent that is in store, and I am looking forward to the next four days of action. It is a great opportunity for the players to impress ahead of the qualifiers and an opportunity to showcase their worth in a very busy calendar going into 2024,” he explained.

The four-day local camp, featuring a 24-member squad, began at The UWI/Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence on Thursday.

Wall noted the progress since March 2023, and was excited about the quality within the team and the players’ readiness to put in the work.

“I think it is another assessment round ever since March during those two sessions, then October, September, and then December that small scrimmage [practice] against Portmore United…I really appreciate those efforts from the guys,” Wall said.
