First…

The 2024 awards season officially got underway with the 81st annual Golden Globes ceremony, which was broadcast live on January 7, 2024, from the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California.

And after a spectacular run last award season, Abbott Elementary star Sheryl Lee Ralph continues to entrust one very close person to style her for all her major award show moments: Her daughter Ivy Coco. Ralph made a glamorous arrival on the red carpet donning a yellow-and-black Safiyaa gown. She was iced with a Daniel William Diamonds necklace and a Fernando Jorge ring. She shouted out Ivy Coco, telling news outlets, “I’m so happy to say, my daughter is my stylist.”

Ralph attended the awards in support of her sitcom, which earned a Best Television Series — Musical or Comedy nomination.

Saint International model Sabrina Nugent is featured in the Pre-Fall 2024 collection of Jamaican womenswear designer Francesca Lake. Shot by film-maker/photog Storm Saulter, the new collection explores church and dancehall tropes and finds balance at the intersection of Cross Roads, Kingston, in Jamaica.

From the designer:

A derivative of FW23’s Church and the Dancehall begs the question: “Where is she going?” I respond, “I’m going to both.” Serving equally as geographic location and metaphor for the intertwining of dual paths, Cross Roads, Kingston, Jamaica is the response to its seasons’ prior.

Where FW23 serves as the sculptural, visceral, and emotive vehicle to tell the story of contrasting worlds; PF24 is the space where the viewer becomes the engager in the continuation of that story, as it takes shape through the first ready-to-wear collection.

From collaboration with both renowned local typography artist Nurse Signs @nursesigns to legendary female figure in the dancehall fraternity Dancehall Queen Carlene Smith @dancehallqueencarlene, encapsulating nuances of our cultural epitome, this collection embodies the bravado and poise of Jamaican persona.

From the mag:

She’s played a Bond agent, a singing primary school teacher, a feminist warrior, and now Rita Marley. Lashana Lynch sits down with Afua Hirsch to talk about her Jamaican ancestors, female solidarity, and why there’s always something to fight for.

Additionally…

Jamaican-Canadian stylist and costume designer Antoinette Messam, known for her work on Netflix’s acclaimed black western The Harder They Fall, has linked up with visionary film-maker Jeymes Samuel again, this time for the comedy, drama The Book of Clarence — a bold new take on the timeless Hollywood era biblical epic.

As with his debut feature, Samuel will reunite with Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter and James Lassiter, who were both producers on The Harder They Fall. Former Netflix executive Tendo Nagenda will also join the three as a producer, and Garrett Grant is serving as executive producer. The Book of Clarence will also reunite Samuel with costume designer Antoinette Messam. Rob Hardy, who previously worked with Alex Garland on Ex Machina and Annihilation and most recently served as director of photography for Mission: Impossible: Fallout, will be in charge of the cinematography. Tom Eagles will serve as the lead editor.

The Book of Clarence will mark Samuel’s second feature film and his third collaboration with megastar Jay-Z.
