Reid scores hat-trick as Arnett beat Molynes 4-1 in JPL
ST JAMES, Jamaica — Fabian Reid scored a hat-trick to lead Arnett Gardens to a 4-1 victory over Molynes United in the second game of a Wray and Nephew Jamaica Premier League double-header at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex on Monday evening.
Reid, who only returned to Arnett Gardens after a stint in India, took his tally to five on the season as the ‘Junglists’ took over fourth place in the tables with 30 points, one behind joint-second place teams Portmore United and Cavalier SC.
Both Tivoli Gardens and Cavalier SC missed a big opportunity to take over the lead when they played out a 0-0 draw in the first game.
Montego Bay United inched up to eighth place on 19 points, on goal difference over Vere United after they came back from 0-2 down to earn a 2-2 draw against Waterhouse FC at the Montego Bay Sports Complex at Catherine Hall.
Arnett, who had won the first-round game 4-0, got off to a fast start with Reid giving the lead in the third minute, but the team went to the halftime break tied at 1-1 after Jason Wright equalised in the 45th minute.
Reid restored Arnett Garden’s lead in the 46th minute while Shai Smith made it 3-1 in the 70th minute. Reid completed his hat trick in time added.
Montego Bay United just failed to avenge their first-round loss to Waterhouse FC after they stormed back from a two-goal deficit to score two goals in eight minutes late in the game to take a well-deserved point.
Javane Bryan gave Waterhouse the lead in the 32nd minute with a header, and Revaldo Marshall made it 2-0 when he rolled the ball across the goal line after MBU’s goalkeeper William Ferreira dropped a cross at his feet.
The home team was not to be denied, however, and Lucas Lima Correa pulled a goal back for the home team in the 75th minute before Owayne Gordon scored the equalizer in the 83rd minute, his second goal in as many games since he returned to the team.
