Local players hope to impress at Reggae Boyz camp

SOME of the top performers in the ongoing Wray and Nephew Jamaica Premier League season will have the opportunity to impress Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz Head Coach Heimir Hallgrimsson over the next two days, after being selected for a national senior men’s training camp.

Hallgrimsson has invited 22 locally based players to attend the camp at UWI-JFF Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence at UWI Mona Bowl. The league’s leading goalscorers — Javane Bryan of Waterhouse, Tivoli Gardens’ Justin Dunn and Portmore United’s Chevaughn Walsh — have all been selected.

Walsh is one of five Portmore players to be selected, including also Alex Marshall who has 12 caps for the Reggae Boyz. Defending champions Mount Pleasant also have five players in the camp, including Captain Sue-Lae McCalla.

Captain Gadail Irving is one of four Cavalier players invited; Arnett Gardens have two call-ups, including Captain Joel Cunningham; and Harbour View also have two, including Jahshaun Anglin who has four caps for Jamaica.

Nicholas Nelson, who has six goals this season, is the lone call-up from Dunbeholden. Molynes United Forward Jason Wright, Arnett’s Jaheim Thomas, and Vere United’s Kemar “Bushy” Beckford are currently listed as reserves.

Humble Lion, Montego Bay United, as well as newcomers Treasure Beach and Lime Hall have no invitees for the camp. Hallgrimsson and his technical staff are preparing for the finals of the Concacaf Nations League in March in Arlington, Texas, as well as the Copa America in the United States, beginning in June.
