Westbound lane on May Pen to Williamsfield Highway reopened
CLARENDON, Jamaica — The National Road Operating & Constructing Company Limited (NROCC) is reporting that the westbound lane of the May Pen to Williamsfield leg of Highway 2000 has been reopened following a two-vehicle crash on Tuesday morning.
“The westbound lane was temporarily closed this morning, following an accident, to facilitate the removal of the disabled vehicles and cleanup activities. Please continue to drive responsibly,” NROCC said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
The crash, which happened sometime before 6:30 am, involved two trucks between the May Pen and Toll Gate toll plazas.
A police report said the driver of a white freight liner motor truck stated that the unit’s front tyre blew out causing him to lose control of the vehicle which hit the jersey barrier and overturned blocking the westbound lane.
The other truck driver reporedly told police that he misjudged trying to pass on the left side of the road on the hard shoulder and collided with the freight liner motor truck puncturing both front tyres and damaging the right diesel tank on the unit.
The driver of the freight liner and a passenger were taken to hospital for treatment. Their injuries are not considered life-threatening.
