Lime Hall score back-to-back wins to kickstart JFF championships

ST ANN, Jamaica — Lime Hall Academy scored back-to-back wins to start the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) Championships after hammering Progressive FC 6-1 in their group A game played at Drax Hall on Saturday.

Sajay Anderson scored a double for the former finalists and Premier League campaigners as they climbed to the top of the tables, while last season’s semi-finalists, Meadforest FC, Humble Lion FC, Sakka Browns Town, Holland PYC and Petersfield FC all scored wins.

In a game where both teams finished with only 10 players each, Anderson scored in the 80th and 90th minutes, but by then the game was over as the St Ann club led 3-0 before Progressive were able to get on the score sheet.

Carlos Campbell gave Lime Hall the lead in the 30th minute, Devante Redman made it 2-0 in the 40th minute and Diego McKenzie scored the third in the 54th minute.

Fitzroy Allen scored for Progressive FC in the 71st minute before Ceejay Gibbs scored Lime Hall’s fourth goal.

Javari Mitchell of Lime Hall was sent off in the 55th minute and Progressive’s Daejion Simpson in the 81st.

Humble Lion FC took over the lead in Group B on goal difference after blanking Reno FC 5-0 at Effortville Community Centre, as Douglas Whitely scored a second-half double.

Michael Moreland gave the home team the lead in the 36th minute, and Everald Swaby added a second in the 40th minute as they led 2-0 at halftime.

Whitely got his first of the game in the 64th minute; Aaron Weir scored his fourth in the 75th minute before Whitely completed his brace two minutes later.

Gray’s Inn SC and WiFi FC, who had started the season with wins, played out a 1-1 draw; Travon King gave Gray’s Inn the lead in the 58th minute before Rondae Smith equalised in the 88th minute as they shared the points.

Meadforest FC rebounded from their opening loss to hand newcomers JDF back-to-back 1-0 losses, with Jeffrey Robinson scoring the winner in the first minute of the game.

Holland PYC made the entry with a 1-0 win over Duncans United, Andre Ennevor scoring the winner in the 60th minute at the game played at the Lacovia Community Centre.

Ronaldo Brown scored in the 17th minute and Allanjaye Earle in time added on as Sakka Club Browns Town beat Baptist Alliance Sports Club 2-0.

Petersfield FC got their first win of the campaign, beating Falmouth United 2-1 with goals from Shewayne Barton and Jordan Turner, while Ahmal Hudson replied for Falmouth United, scoring in back-to-back games.

In Sunday’s game, Roaring River came from a goal down to earn a 1-1 draw against St Bess United, the Westmoreland club’s second 1-1 draw of the season.

Paul Dockery gave St Bess United the lead in time added at the end of the first half before Jashane Foster equalised in the 50th minute for Roaring River.
