KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica’s Cavalier and Dominican Republic club Cibao FC played out a goalless draw in their opening Group B match of the 2026 CONCACAF Caribbean Cup at Estadio Cibao in the Dominican Republic on Wednesday night.

The result came a day after fellow Jamaican club Portmore United suffered a 1-2 defeat to Dominica’s Salcedo FC, while Mount Pleasant FA recently secured its first CFU Club Shield title to join Cavalier and Portmore United as Jamaica’s three representatives in the Caribbean Cup. Cavalier enter the competition as defending champions.

Wednesday’s encounter marked the fourth meeting between Cavalier and Cibao FC in Caribbean Cup history. The clubs previously contested the 2024 final and met again during the 2025 group stage.

In the 2024 two-legged final, Cavalier won the opening match 1-0 before Cibao responded with a 2-1 victory in the return leg. The aggregate score finished level at 2-2, with Cavalier claiming the championship on away goals. However, Cibao gained revenge in 2025 with a 2-0 victory over the Jamaican side.

The latest meeting was another tight, cagey encounter with both teams failing to breach the other’s defence.

Cavalier remain the only club in Caribbean Cup history to reach two finals, finishing runners-up to SV Robinhood in 2023 before defeating Cibao FC to lift the title in 2024. The club also holds the record for the most victories in tournament history, with 10 wins, and the most goals scored, with 40.

However, they were unable to add to that tally on Wednesday as Cibao dominated possession with 74 per cent of the ball.

Despite controlling much of the match, Cibao managed just one shot on target, while Cavalier recorded two.

Both teams sit on one point after the opening round of Group B matches, trailing early leaders Salcedo FC, while Portmore United remain without a point.

Mount Pleasant will bow into action on August 18 against Cibao FC while Cavalier will play Salcedo FC on August 20.
