West Kingston gang member sentenced to 20 years in prison
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Detectives at the Kingston Western Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB) are relieved following the conviction and sentencing of a high-ranking gang member in the division.
He is 24-year-old Andre Stewart, otherwise called ‘Sarge’, from Kingston 12, who police say is a member of the Action Pack gang based in the community.
Stewart was ordered to prison for 20 years in the Gun Court on charges of using a firearm to commit an offence and two counts of assault at common law.
He was sentenced to 20 years of hard labour on the firearm charge and six months of hard labour for the assault. The sentences will run concurrently, and he must serve 10 years before being eligible for parole.
Stewart was charged in relation to a January 2023 incident in the Rema community.
It was alleged that he had a dispute with a male in the community. He reportedly pointed an illegal firearm at a relative of the man with whom he had the dispute and threatened to kill her.
He was found guilty at a trial on September 22, 2023.
