Wayne Pinnock opens season with world lead in long jump
KINGSTON, Jamaica— World Championship silver medallist and 2022 NCAA Indoor champion Wayne Pinnock of the University of Arkansas opened his season with a world-leading and personal best of 8.34m to win the men’s long jump at the University of New Mexico Collegiate Classic in the Albuquerque Convention Center on Friday.
Pinnock, who just beat his previous personal best 8.33m set at the NCAA indoors last year at the same venue, was the world leader at the end of the outdoor season, achieved the jump in the first round and made his jump the third-best Jamaican of all time, number four at Arkansas and number 10 collegiate all time.
Lanae-Tava Thomas was third in the women’s 200m invitational, running 22.72 seconds, followed by Kevona Davis of the University of Texas who ran 22.90 seconds, Brianna Lyston of LSU ran 23.16 seconds, Dejanae Oakley also of Texas ran 23.34 seconds.
Terice Steen of New Mexico State was second in the women’s ‘unseeded’ 400m in 55.21 seconds, Cemore Donald of New Mexico Highland University also ran 57.12 seconds and Kacian Powell also of New Mexico Highland ran 59.12 seconds.
Tajh Hamm of Clemson University ran a personal best 47.08 seconds to win the men’s 400m at the Doc Hale Virginia Tech meet on Friday as Ockera Myrie also of Clemson was second in the women’s 60m in 7.45 seconds.
At the Crimson Elite meet at Harvard University, Dominique Clarke of the University of Albany was third in the women’s 60m final in 7.45 seconds while her teammate Shakur Williams was fourth in the men’s 60m final in 6.71 seconds.
Annia Ashley of the University of South Florida was third in the women’s high jump after clearing 1.73m.
