Julian Marley wins first Grammy Award
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Julian Marley has won the 2024 Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album for his album, Colors of Royal.
The announcement was made during the Grammy Premiere Ceremony a short while ago.
Colors of Royal was one of the five albums nominated in the category at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards, currently underway at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. The other four albums nominated were No Destroyer by Burning Spear; Buju Banton’s Born For Greatness; Beenie Man’s Simma; and Cali Roots Riddim 2023 by Collie Buddz.
Marley has been nominated twice in the Best Reggae Album category. This is his first win. He now joins his brothers Ziggy, Stephen and Damian who all have Grammy wins under their belts.
Marley’s main collaborator on Colors of Royal is producer Alexx Antaeus (Earth Wind and Fire, Rolling Stones, Jah Vinci, Yaksta), with NotNice, Mr Sonic, Sean Alaric and Prince Productions also securing production credits.
Marley was unable to attend the ceremony as he is touring in Australia. Antaeus who accepted the award on his behalf dedicated the award to the people of Jamaica who he says “has accepted me as one of their own.”
The late Aston ‘Family Man’ Barrett and Jo Mersa Marley were remembered by another member of the team who accepted the award.
