Desert of Malibu the one to beat in Reggae Month Trophy feature
The $1.4-million Reggae Month Trophy, an Open Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward going 5 furlongs (1,000m) straight, takes centre stage on tomorrow’s nine-race programme.
Below, the Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide takes a look at the seven runners entered and their chances of winning.
1. PRESS CONFERENCE: (6 ch g by Twilight Time – Lady Shankari) – Finished fourth behind Desert of Malibu, Madelyn’s Sunshine, and stablemate
Emperorofthecats on January 13 over 6 furlongs (1,300m). With all three runners present here, Press Conference’s chances of winning are very slim and he should be left alone here.
2.MADELYN’S SUNSHINE (USA): (5 dkb/b m by Joe’s Son Joey – Madelyn’s Finest) – Ran a brave race to finished second by a length behind the talented
Desert of Malibu in the St Catherine Cup on January 13. Madelyn’s Sunshine led the race for most of the way before she was caught close home by the winner. With the distance reduce and although facing
Desert of Malibu again, Madelyn’s Sunshine could go all the way.
3. SENSATIONAL MOVE: (4 ch c by Sensational Slam – Money Move) – Did extremely well to reach this level. However, Sensational Move is going to find the going tough here and so he is going to be left behind in this one.
4. DESERT OF MALIBU (USA): (5 ch m by Malibu Moon – Lady Digger) – Has passed the winning post in front of rivals in all of her six starts on local soil but was disqualified on once, ruining her spotless racing record.
Desert of Malibu reared up shortly after the start of the St Catherine Cup on January 13 and still managed to defeat competitors, beating
Madelyn’s Sunshine by a length at the wire.
Desert of Malibu also performs well over straight as her first two victories have come over this distance. She has been training well coming into the race and is expected to continue on her winning ways.
5. YELLOWSTONE: (5 ch g by Sensational Slam – Awry) – Won quite easily over this distance on January 6. Although not expected to win,
Yellowstone should make his presence felt. Note. Visor off.
6.A GIFT FROM BEN: (5 ch m by Here Comes Ben – Sage’s Giftbox) – Has no realistic chance of winning.
7. EMPEROROFTHECATS : (5 b g by Emperor Hall – Laws of the Cat) – One of the most improved horses from last season where he won five races from eight starts.
Emperorofthecats faces a tough Desert of Malibu here, but should be very competitive throughout the race. One thing Emperorofthecats has on his side here is that fact that he has not lost a race out of the straight.
