JAAA names 20-member team for Glasgow World Indoors
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) on Friday named a 20- member team to represent Jamaica at the World Athletics Indoor Championships to be held in Glasgow, Scotland, March 1-3.
The team includes individual medallists Stephenie Ann McPherson and Kimberly Williams who participated at the championships held in Belgrade, Serbia, two years ago.
McPherson, who had won the bronze medal in the women’s 400m, has been named in the 4x400m relay pool which will hope to defend their gold medal, while Williams had also won a bronze medal in 2022.
Jamaica had won three medals in the most recent staging, a gold and two bronze and finished 12th on the medals tables.
Junelle Bromfield, who led off the gold medal winning team at Belgrade, was also named in the relay pool along with Stacey Ann Williams and Charokee Young who will contest the women’s 400m.
Natoya Goule, who just missed a medal in the women’s 800m two years ago, will hope to make amends, while Megan Tapper, the Olympic Games bronze medalist in the 100m hurdles, will make her first appearance at the World Indoor Championships.
Danniel Thomas-Dodd, a silver medallist in Birmingham in 2018 will contest the women’s shot put, while Shashalee Forbes and Briana Williams will contest the women’s 60m.
Jamaica will be well represented in the men’s long jump with Carey McLeod and Tajay Gayle, while Tyler Mason and Damion Thomas are down for the men’s 60m hurdles and Rajindra Campbell will make his first appearance when he contests the men’s shot put.
