Marley brothers, other top acts lined up for Jo Mersa’s birthday celebration

The Marley brothers Steven, Julian, Ky-Mani and Damian are scheduled to perform at Jo Mersa Marley Birthday Celebration on Saturday, March 9 in Nine Miles, St Ann.

Joining them will be a star- studded line-up of acts including Jahshii, Lutan Fyah, Kabaka Pyramid, Jesse Royal, Bugle, Spragga Benz, YG Marley, Mystic Marley, King Cruff, Jahmiel, Christopher Ellis, Jermere Morgan and Black Am I.

Jo Mersa Marley passed away on December 27, 2022.

Emerging reggae artiste Yohan Marley says his brother, the late Jo Mersa, was who encouraged him to pursue music.

“A mi bigger bredda Jo Mersa who pushed me. Him teach me how to sing, how to deejay and how fi write. I always had an interest and watching my dad, uncles and my aunts, so naturally, the interest grew from there,” Yohan disclosed in an interview with Observer Online on Tuesday at the Bob Marley Museum on Hope Road in Kingston.

Yohan’s father is Grammy-winning reggae artiste and producer Steven Marley.

Yohan explained what patrons can expect at the event.

“It’s a celebration of my brother, fi honour him and these are all his friends and family. A greatness. We have the Marley brothers my uncles, my father and our friends,” Yohan said.

Yohan, who is currently promoting the song ‘Blessing’, a collaboration with Jesse Royal, has been working with several producers and is expected to release a number of songs this year.

He shared how the collaboration with Jesse Royal came about.

“Jesse is like mi bredda. We grew up together. The song really came about from a reasoning, me and him a reason on life and how precious life is and to be loved and to know that I am loved. Life a di greatest gift of Jah,” said Yohan.

‘Blessing’ was released in December via Easy Star Records.

“The feedback has been great, I’m getting a lot of feedback. People have been messaging me all the time telling me how the song has helped them get through their trials and tribulations that they have been going through,” said Yohan.

Last weekend, Yohan performed at the ICM concert as well as at the Lost in Time Festival. He shared the stage with Jesse Royal.

“We got a great response to the song when we performed it at Lost in Time,” said Yohan.
