200th career win for Christopher Mamdeen
Christopher Mamdeen, champion jockey in 2019, celebrated his 200th career win at Caymanas Park on Sunday, February 25, 2024, when he won aboard Huntsman for trainer Griffiths in the day’s eighth race.
The race was a Restricted Allowance IV contest for native-bred four-year-olds and upwards (non-winners of three) and imported four-year-olds and upwards (non-winners of two) over six furlongs (1,200m).
Mamdeen, who started the day with 199 winners, brought
Huntsman from behind to win the race by 2 ½ lengths ahead of
Joy Is Gold (Foster) in a time of 1:14.4.
“Well, it is really a good feeling to win 200 races. It is no easy task, but I am happy and grateful for everything,” Mamdeen told the Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide.
“I still have a long way to go, and so 200 wins is just the start. Hard work and dedication — that’s the key thing. You have to put in the work, and once you put in the work, you are going to get paid. Nothing comes easy; you have to put in the work,” added Mamdeen, who started his career in 2018.
Mamdeen then went on to register win number 201 in the very next race when he, aboard
Further and Beyond, dead-heated for first place with
Atlantic Convoy, ridden by Foster, in the $1.25-million Allan E “Billy” Williams Memorial Cup feature over seven furlongs (1,400m).
Further and Beyond is trained by Donovan Hutchinson. The Overnight Allowance event for three-year-olds and older ended in a time of 1:26.4 (23.3 x 46.3).
