#Champs2024: Finalists set for Class 3 1500m
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica College’s (JC) Cavel Nooks and St Elizabeth Technical High’s Shameika Dennis will lead the finalists into the Class 3 boys’ and girls’ 1500m at the 113th edition of the ISSA Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships on Tuesday.
Nooks won heat one comfortably to record a time of 4:27.10. He was followed by Clarendon College’s Timario Gayle (4:29.05), St Jago High’s Cory Christie (4:30.14), Andrew Tanui of Kingston College (4:31.14), Calabar High’s Obrian Clarke (4:33.05) and Kevon Palmer of Manchester High (4:34.70).
The qualifiers from heat two are St Jago High’s Phillip Palmer (4:35.44), JC’s Bevin Davey (4:35.86), Denbigh High’s Nathaniel Thomas (4:36.17), Keniel Daniels of Excelsior High (4:37.55), Alfario Cunningham of Wolmer’s Boys (4:37.76) and William Knibbs’ Anthony Murray (4:38.89).
In the girls’ equivalent of the event, Dennis clocked a time of 4:56.90 to win. She was joined by Edwin Allen High’s Denique Palmer (4:58.50), Sackeela Whilby of Hydel High (4:59.63), Alphansus Davis’ Alikay Reynolds (4:59.65), St Jago High’s Jada Fletcher (5:01.26) and Holmwood Technical High’s Rusheca Morris (5:02.16).
Kevongaye Fowler of Edwin Allen High (5:06.30), Dallia Fairweather of St Mary High (5:06.36), Ashley Shepherd of Holmwood Technical (5:06.46), Tabbrel Shepherd of Alphansus Davis (5:06.96), Sydney Pagon’s Alexia Palmer (5:06.99), Mount Alvernia’s Karma Lewin (5:12.42) are the qualifiers from heat two.
Both finals will take place on Wednesday, where the girls will grace the track at 3:30 pm while the boys will compete at 3:38 pm.
