Boy, 6, and uncle die in St Elizabeth crash
MOUNTAINSIDE, St Elizabeth — Two people, including a six-year-old boy, died as a result of injuries they sustained in a two-vehicle crash on the Mountainside/Fullerswood main road, east of Black River in St Elizabeth, on Thursday.
The boy, Chris Gallimore, resided at Arlington District while his uncle, Joshaun Roye, 21, was a resident of Slipe District, both in St Elizabeth. A police report said about 2:15 pm Roye was driving a Toyota Yaris motor car, with the child as a passenger, when he attempted to overtake a motor vehicle and collided with a Ford Ranger pickup travelling in the opposite direction. The two received injuries and were taken to hospital where they were pronounced dead.
Police said the two deaths pushed to 11 the number of road fatalities in St Elizebeth this year.
Former mayor of Black River, Councillor Derrick Sangster (Jamaica Labour Party, Mountainside Division) expressed sadness over the incident. Sangster said the Mountainside road is in good condition, “So, I am a little bit at a loss as to how what would have happened to make such an accident happen. I don’t know what are the circumstances that caused the crash but what I can tell you, [the road] has been resurfaced within the past four years,” he said. “I absolutely express sympathies at the loss,” Sangster said.
